COLLECTION OF ECCLESIASTICAL MASTERPIECES TO BE SHOWN
FOR FIRST TIME AT ST. LUKE’S
East Hampton, New York – SACRED THREADS, an exhibition of a private collection of magnificent
ecclesiastical vestments and textiles from the 14th to the 18th centuries and their connection to
fine art opens at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in East Hampton on Saturday, May 7th, with a benefit
party. The exhibition will be open to the public from May 8th through Monday, May 30th, 2016.
Jill Lasersohn has been collecting rare and fine textiles for over 25 years and this will be the
first time these museum-‐quality masterpieces will be on public view. Her particular focus is
matching items in her collection to important art of the period, literally photos from the past.
In addition to glorious, early Renaissance velvets and silks, rich with gold threads, visitors will
see a beautiful example of a bishop’s gloves that have survived the centuries and view a set of
gold buttons used to elect a doge in 14th-‐century Venice with an accompanying image of a painting
by Giovanni Bellini. There is no charge to visit the exhibition, but a $20 donation is appreciated
to help fund East Hampton community outreach programs including Meals on Wheels, The Retreat, East
End Hospice, Maureen’s Haven, and St. Luke’s Brown Bag Lunch and Laundry Love.
