East End Hospice is proud to announce the opening of the Kanas Center for Hospice Care, our long-dreamed-of Inpatient Facility at Meeting House Road on Quiogue. A bucolic setting, reminiscent of Walden Pond, resulted in the unique design of a quietly beautiful campus of low, one-storied gabled forms, residential in scale and joined by sky-lit hallways and common areas.
With eight private rooms fully equipped to manage the complex needs of the critically ill, the new state-of-the-art facility is raising the standard for hospice care in New York.
Friends and family can now gather in shared spaces such the library and the glass-walled Great Room. Set on six acres of wooded land bordered by the Aspatuck River, the landscape by Araiys Design includes multiple gardens and walking paths, with benches for rest and contemplation.
State-Of-The-Art Suites And Care
The Kanas Center for Hospice Care provides all the services you would expect in a hospital—in a much more welcoming, home-like setting. Specifically designed, staffed and equipped for end-of-life care, the center offers round-the-clock skilled clinical staffing, state-of-the art equipment, and access to physicians, hospice aides, social workers, bereavement counselors, chaplains, and other specialists. Trained volunteers assist with care and companionship. The serene setting encourages visits from families and friends and honors a 24-hour visitation policy, which includes children, and often pets. Each patient suite is designed for comfort, privacy, and ease of care. In addition to the private bath, each includes a patio, space for mementos and personal touches, sitting areas and accommodations for family and friends to spend the night if they choose.
Beautifully Designed Facility
Surrounded by trees and terraced landscaping overlooking Aspatuck creek, the free-standing facility designed by renowned architect Roger Ferris offers a beautiful environment. In addition to the eight patient suites, there is a large gathering room with fireplace, commercial kitchen, library, children’s play area and more. Three and a half acres have remained untouched and protected in perpetuity by the establishment of a Conservation Easement. The landscape plan makes use of native plantings and wildflower gardens to sustain the bird and butterfly populations. The project is fully compliant with Dark Sky initiatives.

The Kanas Center for Hospice care is conveniently located on Long Island’s East End on the hamlet of Quiogue—a community ideally situated in the center of East End Hospice’s service area. Accessible from all directions, the location enables patients to remain closer to home—providing greater convenience and connection to family members and friends. The Kanas Center for Hospice Care is a new safe and peaceful place on the East End, a place our friends and neighbors can call home, as they spend their final days.
