Blog Welcome Paul Mendelowitz, MD, MPH to Board of Directors

Paul C Mendelowitz, MD, MPH, full-time resident of Westhampton, was appointed to the Board of Directors of East End Hospice on August 3, 2024, by Peter C Halstead, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

“I am delighted to join the board at East End Hospice. Supporting patients and families as they navigate the end-of-life has been some of the most meaningful work I have done in my medical practice and as a hospice volunteer, stated Dr. Mendelowitz.

Paul began professional life as a board-certified internist, pulmonologist and intensivist.  He taught medicine residents and pulmonary fellows for 12 years as an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Columbia University. After more than a decade in academic (NY Presbyterian Hospital) and private practice (Bergen County, NJ), he served for over a decade as a hospital senior VP for medical affairs and chief medical officer at Holy Name Medical Center where he was the co-architect in developing a home-grown hospital clinical information system. Subsequently, he served as the Senior Medical Director of Health Informatics for CVS/Aetna/Active Health Management in Manhattan, NY, for more than 11 years.

Dr. Mendelowitz received his medical degree from George Washington University Medical School in Washington DC.  He trained in internal, pulmonary and critical care medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. He also received a master’s degree in public health from Columbia University, a certificate in Medical Statistics from Stanford University and a graduate certification in Health Information Technology from Stevens Institute of Technology. For over ten years he was a member of the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners and is a past-president. Notably, his most formative work experience was during his teen years as a vendor at Shea Stadium selling hot dogs and beer for the NY Mets and NY Yankees. Paul lives in Westhampton with his wife Susan a nurse and retired president of Bergen Regional Medical. They have three sons and 6 grandchildren.

The East End Hospice Board of Directors is comprised of community volunteers who provide strategic oversight and governance to the organization’s mission to improve the lives of terminally ill patients, caregivers, and grieving families.
